About This Workshop

Ensuring accessibility is a vital part of delivering inclusive programmes. To deliver programmes that are accessible for all, you will need to consider:

  • How content is presented for your audiences
  • How your audiences can express themselves in the context of your programme.
  • How to engage your audiences’ interests, present them with new ideas in effective ways and support their motivation to learn.

You can limit the barriers people face in learning experiences by following well-established principles based on research about disability and access. This workshop provides a hands-on, practical introduction to developing and evaluating universally accessible learning experiences. The workshop covers the following topics:

  • Introduction to principles of universal design for learning
  • Making digital learning experience accessible
  • Hands-on workshop on learning accessibility – accounting for
  • Introduction to evaluating learning accessibility
  • Evaluating special programmes designed for disabled audiences

This workshop will help you prepare your programmes for the diverse learning needs of different audiences, and evaluate whether your programmes are experienced as accessible by participants.

Lisa Taylor-Sayles Professor

Lisa Sayles is Professor of Communication at College of the Redwoods in California (USA), where she teaches intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, small group communication, and Public Speaking.

As the Distance Education Coordinator for the College, she evaluates distance education curriculum, and trains and certifies instructors to design digital environments and teach in distance education modalities. She also delivers professional training on accessible online learning practices and effective communication in both formal and informal learning environments. Sayles holds a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art from The Art Institute of Boston and a Master of Science in communication studies from Portland State University.

Dr. Eric Jensen Associate Professor

Dr. Eric Jensen (Associate Professor, Dept. of Sociology, University of Warwick) is a leading social scientist specializing in innovative methods of conducting impact evaluation research in informal learning and public engagement contexts.

Jensen is author of Doing Real Research: A Practical Guide to Social Research (SAGE). He has extensive experience designing and conducting quantitative and mixed methods evaluations at institutions including the National Gallery, London Zoo, Natural History Museum, Cheltenham Literature Festival, the British Museum, San Diego Zoo and Bronx Zoo. Dr. Jensen holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge (UK). He teaches social research methods at the University of Warwick.
